GV K2 *.mov with Key+Alpha
GV K2 *.mov with Key+Alpha
Hello,
I`m trying to setup a workflow to convert the TGA to *.MOV for GV K2 playout. The problem I've faced so far is that the custom FFMPEG command isn't possible. At the moment, I`m using an old QuickTime version (v7) to export it as *.mov, and it can be read from the K2 player with fill and key. So, any suggested workaround for creating a *.MOV file compatible with the GV K2 player using FFASTRANS?
Best,
Andi

Re: GV K2 *.mov with Key+Alpha
Hi Andy,
sorry i dont have K2s here for testing anymore, we switched everything to omneon.
So what we did at work was to use XDCAMHD key and fill files (mxf), would that not work for you too?
If no, i never got in touch with "mov on a k2" actually, the papers say prores and dnxhd should work. Did you try both formats (using the standard encoding processors, no custom ffmpeg) and none of them worked?

Re: GV K2 *.mov with Key+Alpha
Hello
Tried different media files (Avid DNxHD and XDCAM-HD), but the same. The file needs to be rendered with the QuickTime RLE codec, but when I do that with custom ffmpeg, I can import it into K2, but it is not playing correctly. Nothing related to the original media.

Re: GV K2 *.mov with Key+Alpha
Might i ask what exactly is your goal? You refer to RLE, does that mean you try to store key and fill in a single file instead of 2 separate files?

Re: GV K2 *.mov with Key+Alpha
Yes, the fill and key need to be in one file. So the workflow at the moment is this:
TGA animation created and exported together with the audio in a *.MOV media file. Normally, with the transparency enabled, it is a QT with the RLE codec at 1080i25. This.MOV file is not compatible with the K2. Before importing it into the K2, I have to open and save it with QuickTime Pro v7 as .mov to be able to import it into the K2.

Re: GV K2 *.mov with Key+Alpha
Thanks for the clarification. So i never found any solution for that. Some work with an uncompressed alpha channel in the file but i never found anything open source/free that does package/encode this. Also these formats were not anywhere documented officially so its more propreitary.
Thats why after all we went with key and fill in separate files.

Re: GV K2 *.mov with Key+Alpha
And if I render the Targa with the audio? Is doable? And how can I do that?
Re: GV K2 *.mov with Key+Alpha
Hm there is no container format that takes targa at all, its a standalone image format. Also K2 uses it's own propreitary video engine, so it exclusively supports what they documented.
