Question about "history cache"

Sometimes I watch issue, when some files does not submitted in monitor node. How do you detect "new" files in "history cache"? Only from filename? Or, maybe, filename+size?
Because users may copying many files from cameras like MVI_6701.MOV ... MVI_6776.MOV. And if it happens some times in one history cache age period, some filenames may be same.
