Allow FFAStrans to start jobs even if system load is 100%

Post by someeeguy »

Is there an option to allow FFAStrans to automatically run jobs in its watch folder even if system load is 100%? If not would it be possible to add this option in a future release?

I run boinc/dc tasks at very low priority such that they only run when the system has nothing else to do (so load is always around 100%). I would like to set FFAStrans to run at a higher priority such that completing the jobs in its watch folder take priority over the boinc/dc load but it seems FFAStrans won’t start jobs if it sees a system load above 85%… or am I mistaken?

sidenote: while registering to be a member I was asked to complete the sentence "Execute complex commands..." from the feature list on the FFAStrans homepage but that sentence is no longer there (had to find it elsewhere).

Hello Someeeguy,

Are you try to change your workflow properties to "priority" high or very high?
Honestly I don't believe your request is possible because FFastrans process tasks if computer ressources are available, if not the soft waits.
Steinar will be more specialist to answer correctly :D

Yep, I set Windows to prioritize ffastrans over boinc but as mentioned ffastrans won’t start jobs because it sees that system load is already 100%.

Seems like it would be possible to add an option to have ffastrans essentially dumb itself down a bit (i.e. ignore system load) and just start jobs as they become available.

Hi,
Beware, I speak about prioritize "inside" FFastrans. Right clic on your workflow, select properties and select priority high or very high. I don't speak about windows priority.
Try this and we will see.

Hi guys, setting priority within FFAStrans wont do when system load is > 85%. I have a few options in mind that will help the situation, but it wont be available until 0.9.4. I'm still finishing 0.9.3 which has taken a bit longer than expected. So stay tuned and thanks for the feedback :-)

FFAStrans is a great tool, glad to hear use cases like mine are on your radar. Looking forward to 0.9.4.

Thank you guys for the responses.
